You’ve always heard that metal takes a huge amount of influence from classical music. Well, here’s the proof along with 10 Awesome Pieces of Classical Music for Metalheads.

If you’ve been craving to get into some of the heaviest and most epic pieces of music ever written, your taste may expand beyond metal without you even knowing it! Whether it be from the true classical era, baroque, romantic or modernist era of old school tunes, evil and violent themes mixed with world class musicianship is a centuries-old concept.

Beethoven and Bach are household names, but what about Prokofiev? The Russian composer wrote some dark stuff, including the aptly named “Scythian Suite, Op. 20.” Written in 1915, the suite’s four movements follow an evil god, pagan monsters and a hero’s journey to save his damsel in distress.

It could be argued that the heaviest piece of music ever written isn’t by Black Sabbath, Cannibal Corpse or Napalm Death, but Frédéric François Chopin. The third movement of “Piano Sonata No. 2” is so heavy that it became the motif for death itself. That piece of music is better known in modern times as the “Funeral March.”
