Monday night a 12-year-old in Mt. Morris Township somehow got his hands on a gun that for some reason wasn't locked up. While messing around with the gun, it ended up going off and fire a bullet through the wall, hitting his sister who was on the other side.

According to ABC12, the 15-year-old girl was shot in the leg and in stable condition. No charges have been filed and no arrests were made. The family is cooperating with police.

I understand that this was a total accident but when you have kids, guns have to be locked up at all times. I mean, how many times have we heard this same story over and over? I have a son that's also 12 years old but there is no way he could ever his hands on my firearm.

I'm sure the parents learned a valuable lesson here and are very thankful their daughter is going to be okay.
