Charlie Day Says ‘Always Sunny’ Shouldn’t Continue Without Glenn Howerton

Always Sunny Charlie Day Glenn Howerton Ending
FX

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was bound to close up shop eventually, but the end got much more real with word that creator-star Glenn Howerton would take on outside projects. Now, star Charlie Day is optimistic Dennis will return in Season 13, but thinks the show should call it quits without him.

When last we heard, late 2018 was seen as the likely target for Season 13, with Sunny star Kaitlin Olson suggesting filming might pick up after her work on FOX’s The Mick in late spring. Howerton’s involvement remains in question after NBC picked up new sitcom A.P. Bio, but Day tells The Huffington Post he wouldn’t want to carry on without at least some Dennis Reynolds presence:

We really never want to do the show without Dennis. There is a possibility that maybe we would have Dennis in part of a season, not a complete season. I think we would still do a great season. There is a possibility that we have Dennis for an entire season, which would be fantastic … You know, we’ll see what happens with [Glenn’s] show, but I personally would not want to do the show without Dennis. And talking with Glenn, I know he still has a lot of love for the show and wants to do the show.

I imagine we’ve not seen the last of Dennis Reynolds.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was renewed through at least Season 14, though Howerton isn’t the only star with outside projects. Danny DeVito joined a new Amazon series with Jeff Goldblum, to say nothing of Day’s own film career.

FX will likely have an update on Always Sunny in the coming months, but can the Paddy’s Pub gang survive a year without Dennis?
