‘American Horror Story: Asylum’: Chloe Sevigny Teases “Tragic” Future, Possible Resurrections
As viewers of ‘American Horror Story: Asylum‘ well know, mental institutions can be frightening enough without aliens and mutants lurking about, deranged Nazi doctors and bloody-faced killers appearing at every corner. Chloe Sevigny’s Shelley the nymphomaniac certainly found this out the hard way in last night’s Halloween thriller “Nor’easter,” as the
good Dr. Arden made sure she wouldn’t escape his clutches again, so what does the actress say is next? And will we see any deceased characters again?
While ‘American Horror Story’ and particularly ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’ seem to throw every possible nightmare at the wall to see what sticks, few scares were as potent as last night’s “Nor’easter,” in which Chloe Sevigny’s character Shelley woke up to find that the villainous Dr. Arden (James Cromwell) had amputated her legs in response to her escape attempt. Going forward, we certainly haven’t seen the last of Shelley, as Chloe Sevigny believes viewers will ultimately end up rooting for the purportedly-damaged character.
“She’s pretty pissed off and pretty helpless,” Sevigny told reporters in a recent conference call. “In the beginning, you’re not rooting for her and you think she’s a bad girl and then you see her helping Kit (Evan Peters), Lana (Sarah Paulson) and Grace (Lizzie Brochere) and realize she’s pretty selfless.” Shelley may not have much time to prove herself, however, as Sevigny foretold a particularly gruesome future for her character.
In fact, Sevigny noted that she may join the ranks of Dr. Arden’s other experiments, seen feasting in the woods in last night’s episode. “I don’t know how much more dialogue I have, there’s lots of gurgling… You see her transform into something not-so pleasant to look at that takes four hours of prosthetic makeup.” The actress had wrapped filming for the moment, but did note that she could be asked back.
Does that leave hope for other characters we’ve seen meet unpleasant ends thus far? Could the craziness of ‘American Horror Story: Asylum’ belie a deeper reality? “They might be somewhere else, they may be revealed later in the season as something else.”
