April Is ‘National Distracted Driving Month’ – Michigan State Police Cracking Down
If you text when driving not only are you putting your life at risk, you are risking the lives of other people. Between cell phones, passengers and eating - there are a lot of ways to be distracted while driving. Michigan State Police are not playing this month. April is 'National Distracted Driving Month'.
According to the MSP website there are 3 main types of distractions. I am sure most of us are guilty of one if not all of these. Save yourself some cash and follow the rules of road.
There are three main types of distraction:
- Visual - taking your eyes off the road
- Manual - taking your hands off the wheel
- Cognitive - taking your mind off of what you're doing
Distracting activities include:
- Using a cell phone and/or texting
- Eating and drinking
- Talking to passengers
- Grooming
- Reading, including maps
- Using a PDA or navigation system
- Watching a video
- Changing the radio station, CD, or MP3 player.
