After an announcement on Wednesday, the Mighty Mac Swim race will accept up to 400 swimmers to race across the Straits of Mackinac.

The Mighty Mac Swim first took place back in 2007 when a group of 50 swimmers made the 4-mile trek to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Mackinac Bridge. At the time, there were only 20 documented swims to cross the Straits of Mackinac.

Most recently, the Mighty Mac Swim only allowed for 84 participants to make the journey due to safety reasons. The swim had in place a safety fleet with enough space to hold all the swimmers if needed. Now, the addition of a 500-passenger ferry, the race will grow in size.

The race will take place on August 11, 2019 with a maximum of 400 swimmers. If you are brave enough and have the ability to make the 4-mile swim, the entry fee is $375. For more information, check out the Mighty Mac Swim website here.
