Kevin Smith Is Shooting ‘Jay and Silent Bob Reboot’ This Fall
Almost two decades after making the first Jay and Silent Bob solo flick, Kevin Smith is returning to the View Askewniverse with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, which he announced was happening about six months ago. Now, it looks like his Supergirl schedule is giving him the break he needs to start shooting his new movie, which officially begins production this fall.
Rian Johnson Says ‘The Last Jedi’ Only Has — Gasp! — Twelve Wipe Transitions
Anyone who’s watched even just one Star Wars movie knows that the series is notorious for its wipe transitions. George Lucas was inspired by a few Akira Kurosawa films for the original Star Wars, and he also copied the legendary Japanese director’s use of wipes to move from scene to scene. Now, every Star Wars movie, and even the TV series, have wipes, as it’s become kind of a staple of the franchise. Even The Last Jedi has them — but not as many as you might think.
Vince Vaughn Beats a Car to Death in the ‘Brawl in Cell Block 99’ Teaser
Vince Vaughn has come a long way from crashing weddings as a strictly comedic actor. He’s made one of my favorite transitions in film acting, from “Oh, he’s hilarious” to “Oh, he’s actually really good.” While his season of True Detective wasn’t exactly lauded, Vaughn has proved his talent for drama, and his new film Brawl in Cell Block 99 certainly looks like it’ll prove that even further. Also, he just looks terrifying.
Disney Also Planning Jabba the Hutt and Boba Fett ‘Star Wars’ Spinoffs
Listen up, mah bookies. Not only is there an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone in the works, Disney is also planning to give us solo movies for Boba Fett and Jabba the Hutt! That’s right folks, soon we might get to see the backstories of our favorite galactic bounty hunter and… whatever Jabba is. I assume Hutts hatch out of the ground as tiny snails and just don’t stop growing until they become giant crime lords. #Goals, in other words.
Kurt Russell Kept Calling Chris Pratt ‘Star Wars’ During ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’
Acting isn’t easy, especially when you’re forced to say all kinds of dialogue about made-up stuff like Ravagers and Celestials and living planets in some indie genre flick. Kurt Russell was one of the (many) highlights of this year’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but even he had some trouble with everyone’s names.
A New Study Finds White Men Still Talk the Most in Movies
The goal with any society is to get better at stuff, to learn from mistakes and evolve, gradually, over time, to become the best version of itself. But for all the woke baes and social justice awareness out there, it looks like movies still have a long way to go. A new study has found that white men still get the most dialogue in today’s cinema, and women and minorities are still often relegated to stereotypical, nonessential roles.
‘Aquaman’ Director James Wan Says Even Shooting Out of the Water Is ‘Super Complicated’
When you’re shooting a big-budget tentpole superhero movie, it’s going to be complicated. When you’re shooting a big-budget tentpole superhero movie, half of which is underwater, it’s going to be really complicated. James Wan’s Aquaman is currently shooting in Australia, and Wan himself says it’s not an easy shoot.
John Boyega Says ‘The Last Jedi’ Gives Carrie Fisher a Proper Send-Off: ‘She Lives Forever in a Sense’
The biggest question going into Star Wars: The Last Jedi is how the movie will deal with Carrie Fisher’s passing. She had finished all of her scenes for the movie before her death last winter, but the series would be remiss if she wasn’t given a proper sendoff. We still don’t know if another actress will play General Leia in Episode IX, or if she’ll be somewhat written out of it, but John Boyega says she’s given her due in The Last Jedi.
Steven Spielberg Reveals Which ‘Indiana Jones’ Is His Least Favorite (No, Not That One)
Steven Spielberg, prolific and legendary as he is, has had plenty of flops in his time, and he’s not afraid to let everyone know which of his many film children he likes the least. While making the new documentary Spielberg, documentarian Susan Lacy spent more than 30 hours interviewing her subject, and during some of those sessions he told her which of his Indiana Jones films he likes the least. No, it’s not that one.
Why Doug Liman Changed the Title of ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ to ‘Live Die Repeat’
Edge of Tomorrow was one of those inspired movies that suffered from a weird ad campaign and diminished box office returns. Doug Liman’s 2014 mind-warping sci-fi didn’t get nearly as much attention as it deserved, and Liman thinks it has something to do with the title — which is why it got a new one as soon as the DVD hit shelves.
Taika Waititi Says About ‘80 Percent’ of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Was Improv
After two trailers, one thing about Thor: Ragnarok that everyone seems to agree on is how much fun it looks. Which shouldn’t come as much of a surprise: director Taika Waititi is a master of all types of comedy, having made a name for himself with movies like vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows and last year’s terrific Hunt for the Wilderpeople. As it turns out, working on the Ragnarok set sounds like it was even more fun than the movie looks.
Surprise, Surprise, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Might Run Well Over Two Hours
Avengers: Infinity War is going to be a lot. A lot of heroes, a lot of villains, a lot of battles, a lot of groups of buddies meeting other groups of buddies, a lot of characters having big arguments and then uniting together to fight their enemies. It’s a lot to get through in one movie, which is why, big surprise, Infinity War is most likely going to clock in at way over two hours, and might be closer to three.
