Chris Pratt Would Like Peter Quill to Meet the Punisher in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
As good as many of the Marvel movies have been — and they’ve been very, very good — perhaps my favorite part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is its complicated web of secrecy and lies. Each cast member has to be prepared to talk about Marvel movies at a moment’s notice, to speak to the entire design of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, without giving away proprietary information or giving entertainment reporters the wrong kind of soundbite. If Disney were smart, they would launch an Aaron Sorkin-produced television series about the politics of press junkets. I would watch the heck out of that.
‘Big Hero 6’ Actor Ryan Potter Just Used YouTube to Audition for the Role of Robin in ‘Batman’
One of the big questions surrounding that standalone Ben Affleck Batman movie is whether they will bring a version of Robin into the fold. Thanks to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, we know that the character of Robin exists in the DC Cinematic Universe, but the level of violence in that film seemed at odds with the more lighthearted camaraderie that comes with an adolescent sidekick. Then again, a recent interview with DC Films’ Geoff Johns described Batman as a less grim figure going forward. Could Robin play a key role in making DC’s Batman more of a superhero and less of a vigilante in a cape?
Rumor: ‘The Flash’ Will Fight Supervillain Group The Rogues in Standalone Film
Critics of the DC Cinematic Universe have often pointed out that Warner Bros. has tried to crawl before they can walk, choosing to stuff their movies with as many recognizable villains and superheroes as possible instead of slowly ramping up their exposure for movie fans. And while I am certainly not as pessimistic about the future of the DCU as others, I will agree that Warner Bros. too often seems to include three or more characters when one or two would suffice. So it’s not particularly surprising to hear a rumor that the standalone Flash movie will feature — you guessed it — as many villains as possib
Margot Robbie Wants to Play Harley Quinn ‘Forever’
By now, you’ve probably had a chance to see Suicide Squad in theaters. And whether you liked it, hated it, or fell somewhere in between (this last category applies directly to me), you probably walked away impressed with the manic energy actress Margot Robbie brought to the character of Harley Quinn. She was unquestionably the highlight of the film and one of the few things capable of uniting Suicide Squad fans and opponents alik
Jared Leto Wants Joker To Go Head-to-Head With the ‘Batfleck’
Odds are you’ve probably rolled your eyes more than a few times after hearing Jared Leto’s approach to playing the Joker in the upcoming Suicide Squad. We’ve talked here before about the actor’s refusal to break character and his uncomfortable gifts to his costars; what we should also remember is that Leto’s Joker seems to be the perfect version of that character for Zack Snyder and David Ayer's vision of the DC universe. If Leto’s take on the Joker proves the quiet optimists like me right, DC Films would do well to give audiences a chance to see Ben Affleck’s Batman and Jared Leto’s Joker in action.
Marvel: Don’t Expect a TV and Movie Crossover Anytime Soon
With a popular new television show and movie coming out every six months or so, it can sometimes feel like this whole superhero thing comes pretty easy for Marvel. This has led some people to wonder why the studio hasn’t taken the next step and intermingled the characters from both media. Who would say no to a Spider-Man movie with a Daredevil team-up? Or Iron Fist consulting Doctor Strange on the mystical arts?
Jeff Bridges Talks ‘The Big Lebowski’ Possible Standalone Film and Sequel
Back in June, actor John Turturro talked to The Hollywood Reporter about his ongoing efforts to make a film featuring his popular bowling lothario Jesus from The Big Lebowski. In the interview, Turturro explained that the character had actually been created years before the movie as part of a public theater company Turturro had participated in. While the actor described the ongoing legal discussions as “very complicated,” he did claim to have the involvement of the Coen Brothers on the film, although not as the directors.
‘Rogue One’ Team Shoots Down Han Solo and Anakin Skywalker Rumors
Since spending the GDP of a small country to acquire the Star Wars rights from George Lucas, Disney has done its best to wipe the slate clean of decades of accumulated fan theories and speculation. Under the guidance of Kathleen Kennedy and the rest of LucasFilm, the new creative team has streamlined the canon, narrowed down the list of key characters for the sequels, and otherwise done it’s best to mark a new course for the Star Wars franchise. So when a new set of rumors began to surface at Star Wars Celebration Europe this past month, it was no surprise that the official response was immediate and firm.
Darth Vader to Star in a Canonical Virtual Reality Story
With Disney throwing a massive amount of resources behind their new Star Wars property, one of the more interesting things to come out of Star Wars Celebration was the news that Luscasfilm would not shy away from using emerging technologies like virtual reality to tell Star Wars stories. Case in point? A brand new Darth Vader virtual reality experience, which the folks at Entertainment Weekly have written up alongside quotes from the producers and crew.
Mel Gibson Shoots Everyone but His Daughter in ‘Blood Father’ Trailer
Mel Gibson has spent the majority of his career playing variations of the same slightly unhinged character, so it was probably inevitable — even despite his well-deserved years in the Hollywood penalty box — that some producer would find occasion to cast him as a slightly unhinged dad. The new trailer for Blood Father shows Gibson ranting and raving as per usual, only this time he has an estranged daughter on the run to protect and a survivalist beard. The latter certainly seems like an upgrade.
New ‘Dark Tower’ Set Photos Show Off Idris Elba’s Gunslinger, First Look at Jake Chambers
It’s getting harder and harder for people to hide their excitement for the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, and while we still have a long way to go before we get to see finished product — the men in Dark Tower costumes filmed across the desert, and ScreenCrush followed — many fans can pass the time glued to their computer screens, looking for any new set photos and behind-the-scenes content they can get our hands on.
