The True Genius of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

There was a lot of paranoia about spoilers in the days and weeks (and months [and years]) leading up to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Trailers gave almost no indication of a plot beyond the presence of a) stars and b) wars. The official poster didn’t include a picture of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker for fear of revealing his fate. Even press screenings were delayed until the last possible moment to keep the lid on J.J. Abrams’ latest mystery box for as long as humanly possible.

Calm Down, ‘Mad Max’ Director George Miller Says He’s Still Making More Sequels

Earlier this week, George Miller was quoted as saying that he was done with the Mad Max franchise, which came as a shock to many, especially since Miller has done nothing but talk up Mad Max sequels since before Fury Road even hit theaters. But as several suspected, Page Six had their story wrong, which just goes to show that you should always take their reports with a GIANT boulder of salt.

Guillermo del Toro Preps ‘Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark’

He either is or isn’t still trying to make Pacific Rim 2 (it seems to change several times a day), but if nothing else Guillermo del Toro has another project to work on. True to form, it’s another movie that blends horror and childhood. I’ll let him tell you all about it, since he tweeted out the news himself earlier today:

Fantastic Five: Best Marvel Wonder Women

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from our years on the Internet, it’s that there’s no aspect of comics that can’t be broken down and quantified in a single definitive list, preferably in amounts of five or ten. And since there’s no more definitive authority than ComicsAlliance, we’re taking it upon ourselves to compile Top Five lists of everything you could ever want to know about comics.

They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, and as some of our earlier episodes have shown, Marvel isn’t afraid to compliment their Distinguished Competition by homaging, or straight up copying, some of DC’s most popular characters. Since her introduction in 1942, Princess Diana, better known as Wonder Woman, has become without question the most well-known and influential superheroine in the world. We already showed you some of the best analogues Marvel made for the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight, and now it’s time to round out DC’s Trinity with the Amazing Amazon!

‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ Is the Secret Bad Robot Project, But What Is It?

Reports began to surface this evening via social media that a trailer for Bad Robot’s upcoming mystery project is attached to screenings of Michael Bay’s 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. The film is titled 10 Cloverfield Lane, and while many suspect it’s a secret Cloverfield sequel, there is some evidence to support that this not quite true, including a statement from J.J. Abrams himself. So what is 10 Cloverfield Lane, exactly?

‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ VFX Reel Reveals the Magic Behind the Movie

Earlier this morning, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Visual Effects. This ‘Deadpool’ Billboard Is the Best Billboard Since the Last ‘Deadpool’ Billboard

I’m on the fence about Deadpool as a movie. On the one hand, I like the irreverent tone and how it mostly seems to be sending up all the cliches we’ve become used to in modern superhero movies. On the other, I could see this potentially getting annoying and grating over the course of an entire movie. But, one thing I think we can universally agree on is that the marketing so far has been brilliant. Latest case in point? This Los Angeles billboard which uses emoji in the dumbest and most immature way. And it’s fantastic.

George Miller: ‘I Won’t Make More Mad Max Movies’

Ever since Mad Max: Fury Road opened in theaters this summer, fans have been clamoring for updates on potential sequels. Director George Miller has abided that talk saying that while he wants to shoot a smaller movie first he had planned two additional Mad Max films. That’s the good news. The bad news? John Boyega Says ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Will Be ‘Much Darker’

There was plenty of the dark side in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, though overall, J.J. Abrams’ first film in the new trilogy skewed a bit more toward the light side of things, tonally-speaking. It was a solid, entertaining re-introduction to the world of Star Wars, giving us a bit of the familiar and plenty of new elements, setting the table for Episode 8 to really expand on the newer characters and their journeys. And while it’s still a bit early to speculate about Rian Johnson’s plans for the follow-up, John Boyega has offered a couple of clues.
