Chris Cornell’s Musical Catalog Gets a Massive Bump on the Charts

Chris Cornell’s musical catalog, made of up multiple bands he fronted, solo works and appearances on compilations, have seen an immense jump and/or reentry into the charts. In all, a staggering eight Cornell-related albums are in the latest Billboard 200 for the week ending May 25 and dated June 10.

The total tally sees a sales gain of 2,396 percent in the two weeks ending May 18 and 25, compared to the two weeks before — ending May 4 and 11 — prior to Cornell’s May 18 death. His albums and digital tracks moved 421,000 copies in all for the two weeks ending May 25 according to Nielsen Music as reported by Billboard.

Three Cornell-related albums currently reside in the Top 40 — Soundgarden’s Superunknown bumps from No. 32 to No. 28, the soundtrack to the 1992 film Singles – which came out as a deluxe reissue May 19 and now features Cornell on nine tracks – re-enters at No. 33 and Audioslave’s self-titled debut rises from No. 54 to No. 37.

Elsewhere in the Top 200,  Soundgarden’s Badmotorfinger jumps from No. 110 to No. 64, Temple of the Dog’s self-titled album rises from No. 136 to No. 80, the live solo album Songbook moves from No. 183 to No. 82, Cornell’s most recent studio album Higher Truth re-enters at No. 155, and Soundgarden’s Down on the Upside does the same at No. 158.

Audio and video on-demand streams rose with a 703 percent gain in the two weeks ending May 18 and 25, going from 10.1 million streams to 81 million streams from the two prior weeks.
