Marvel’s Netflix Daredevil leaked another early treat for fans last night, as our first Season 2 photos spotlighted a deadly meeting between Matt Murdock and Jon Berthal’s Punisher, but the best was yet to come. Get inside scoop on Marvel’s “walking NRA ad,” as well as the season’s faster pace, love interest, and a new photo of Matt in action!

In addition to releasing a full version of the standoff photo between Daredevil and The Punisher (itself based on some of Garth Ennis’ artwork), new showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez spoke to Entertainment Weekly of some changes in store for the season, namely that we’d meet Frank Castle off the bat, rather than wait, as with Wilson Fisk. “The advantage of any sequel is you can dive right in,” Petrie says. “We hit the ground running and then we ran as fast as we f—ing could.”

Not only that, but the duo offered a tantalizing tease of their topical approach to The Punisher’s controversial choice of weaponry:

Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves. Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s—t. We have not shied away from the rich complicated reality of Now. If you’ve got a gun and you’re not the police you’re going to incite strong feelings. We’re stirring the pot and we’re aware of the headlines where we live and we’re trying to get people to think.

Adds Ramirez, likening the character to Taxi Driver’s Travis Bickle:

He has a different moral code. Matt is a devout Catholic — and you rarely see a character who’s a devotee anything on TV. Frank has Hammurabi’s Code. It’s like letting a great white shark into the water.

But why stop there? The showrunners also revealed that in addition to Matt getting closer to Karen (see the photo below), the blind lawyer from Hell’s Kitchen will also have plenty to test himself in the return of Elektra, his college girlfriend-turned master assassin:

Matt’s a deeply moral complicated guy and she’s just the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have. She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.

Elsewhere of Daredevil Season 2, we know for sure that Rosario Dawson has been confirmed to reprise her role as Claire Temple, along with Scott Glenn’s Stick. In addition to Elodie Yung’s Elektra and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, past Bullseye reports listed Marvel’s Mister Fear and Spider-Man villain Mysterio as potential villains for the season as well, though no confirmations have emerged. Drew Goddard remains aboard as a consultant, though the series has changed showrunners from Steven DeKnight to Marco Rodriguez and Doug Petrie.

We don’t know exactly when Netflix’s Daredevil will return for Season 2 in 2016, but watch the first trailer again below, and stay tuned for the latest on new developments!
