As we reported recently, Foo Fighters frontman and Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl was set to be honored by his birth city, Warren, Ohio, with some record breaking drumsticks. On Saturday (July 7), the 900-pound monster drumsticks made out of poplar logs were unveiled during a ceremony, and although Grohl couldn’t make the festivities in person, he was there in spirit.

This latest gift finds the proud city crafting the largest pair of drumsticks in the world to honor their local hero. This isn’t the first gift his birth city has offered up to Dave though. In 2009,  Warren bestowed Grohl with ‘David Grohl Alley,’ an aptly named alley within the city limits in celebration of the rocker.

Grohl took out a full-page ad in the local paper to thank his hometown for the latest honor. The ad shows Grohl sporting a ‘Made in Warren’ t-shirt and an ear-to-ear grin. In the newspaper Grohl thanks Warren, Ohio, for their support and for being a great community, saying, “To the wonderful city of Warren, from the bottom of my heart I’d like to thank you all so much… For the childhood memories. For my family. For my very own alley. For the world’s largest drumsticks! And for all of your support… But most of all for being such a great community. One that makes me proud to say… I am from Warren, Ohio!”

According to TribToday.com. those words were read by the city’s Mayor Doug Frankin during the unveiling ceremony on Saturday. See a picture of the sticks here.

For fans who want to check out the ‘Guiness Book of World Record’ holding sticks in person, the monster size drumsticks will be on display at the Warren Amphitheater through the month of September and then they will be moved to their rightful home, David Grohl Alley.

So the only thing missing now seems to be the largest drum set in the world, fit for the gigantic sticks!
