Warner Bros. Sets 2020 Release Dates for Two Unknown DC Movies
Yesterday we learned San Diego Comic-Con would bring big news for Wonder Woman with Warner Bros. finally confirming our hopes of a Patty Jenkins-directed sequel. That’s bound to be just a sliver of the big news to come out of the studio’s panel on Saturday, and ahead of it we’ve already learned the sequel’s potential release date.
The studio announced four new release dates on Monday evening, including two unnamed DC movies set for 2020. As Variety reported, the lineup includes a Warner Bros. animated film on June 1, 2018, an event film on December 13, 2019, and two new DCEU films on February 14, 2020 and June 5, 2020. One of those is most likely the date for the yet-to-be-announced-but-totally-happening Wonder Woman 2. There are rumblings that Jenkins return will be officially announced along with a release date at Saturday’s panel, and we’ve already heard rumors that the sequel will be set in the Cold War era with a possible surprising character return. I place my bets on a Valentine’s Day opening for Wonder Woman 2, mostly because a female superhero movie sounds like a much preferable (and badass) way to spend a commercialized holiday about sappy romance cliches.
And the other date? There are plenty of DCEU films that could fill that June 5 slot (or the February one if Jenkins’ sequel does indeed get a summer release). Matt Reeves’ Batman is one possibility, along with the Suicide Squad sequel, which is set to start production in 2018 with The Shallows director Jaume Collet-Serra rumored to fill the director’s seat. We’ve also yet to hear release dates for The Flash and Cyborg solo movies, or David Ayer’s Gotham City Sirens. Next up on the DCEU roster are Justice League on November 17 followed by Aquaman next year on December 21.
