'Gotham' released a new trailer to tease the arrival of a few more members of Batman's Rogues Gallery and hid a giant question mark -- the Riddler's calling card -- in the city for the title screen... this is the most subtle thing this show has done so far.

I looked back through their trailers on YouTube and they actually began using this title screen about a month ago, but I hadn't seen anything on it yet. In the grand scheme of things, it probably doesn't mean that much. We've already met Edward Nygma and know that he'll become The Riddler at some point. It just seems like an odd thing to include so early on.

As a huge Batman fan, I gotta say that I'm not that impressed with the show thus far. It's unfair to judge a show after just two episodes, but damn, Gotham. Get it together. Here are some things that they could stop doing immediately that would probably improve the show:

  1. Stop Winking at the Audience -- We get it. It's a Pre-Batman, Batman show. You don't need to force in characters who have no business being involved in the story yet. If they winked any harder I'd think they were having a seizure.
  2. Get Some New Writers -- Some of these lines are so terrible and delivered so poorly I don't know whether to blame the writer, director or actor. See Jada Pinkett Smith at the 22 second mark in the trailer below. Jesus.
  3. Actually, Just Fast-Forward and Put Batman in the Show -- Let's face it, this thing can only go so far before it gets (even more) ridiculous.

It looks like there are some interesting things on the horizon -- Victor Zsasz, Arkham City, Scarecrow? Regardless of how cool the things are that they add to the show, it's going to fall flat if it's not well-written. After a lack-luster start, Cartoon Network's 'Beware the Batman' ended up finding its voice and becoming a great show. Not only did that show get canceled after one season, the network just burned off the remaining seven episodes marathon style at 2:30a last Sunday. Talk about a slap in the face. So this non-Batman show better get its s--- together, because a Batman title doesn't guarantee a long life.
