‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ is an iconic video, with Nirvana playing a pep rally that turns into chaos. The song ended up being Nirvana’s biggest hit and propelled the album ‘Nevermind’ to the top of the charts. One thing you may not know, however, is that one of the kids in the video was Fear Factory vocalist Burton C. Bell.

In an audio interview with MusicFrenzy.net, Bell recalled how his appearance came about. “I was a big Nirvana fan for a long time, and I saw them a bunch of times on the ‘Bleach’ tour. After seeing them a few times, I’d run into them, a friend of mine actually played on the record, ‘Nevermind’ — he played cello on ‘Something In The Way’. So we had a copy of that record almost five months before it came out,” says Bell.

“What happened was that, before the record came out, they had a show in L.A. at the Roxy, and after the show, they threw out flyers saying, ‘Hey, come to our video shoot.’ And so me and my roommate got the flyer with the directions on it and we went to the video shoot the next day. . . And what happened in the video wasn’t even supposed to happen. The audience just went nuts.”

Fear Factory recently released their latest CD ‘The Industrialist.’  They are set to kick off a headlining tour tomorrow (Aug. 1), and have a couple members that recently joined the band.

In an interview with Loudwire, guitarist Dino Cazares talked about the new Fear Factory members. “Matt DeVries from Chimaira is our new bassist. Mike Heller from the band Malignancy is our new drummer. They’ll add a lot of new energy. Fear Factory has gotten really aggressive with some of our past records and that makes for a really f—ing energetic show and I love it.”
