Flint's own Ryan Gregory (aka Mr. Creepy), has spent years building musical instruments out of materials that are thoughtlessly cast aside by society. Take a quick tour of his workspace and see some of his impressive collection here.

Gregory resides in Mott Park, and is well-known among local musicians. He is perhaps best known for his annual show on Halloween, which is also his birthday. The  performance generally consists of his alter-ego, Mr. Creepy, jamming with a group of masked friends, all of whom are armed with his assortment of unusual instruments. Creepy's annual Halloween show became D.I.Y. Fest this year -- a word-of-mouth, invite-only affair. It's all very cloak and dagger, but for good reason -- to avoid unwanted attention... like, say, that of the authorities.

Creepy recently did a great interview with Noisey/Vice, which is how I learned about him. I've been out of the local music scene for years, and despite my being a Flint native, I was always more of a visitor than an active participant -- playing the occasional show at Churchill's before heading back to Mt. Pleasant, where I lived at the time. Based solely on the response his Vice profile is getting from my musician friends, I can tell Gregory is one of "those guys" that everyone in the scene knows, but is, at the same time, somewhat of an enigma. I highly recommend checking out the in-depth Noisey piece here. Either way, he makes unique things that make very cool sounds, some of which you can see and hear in the videos above and below.

Mr. Creepy also recorded a brief jam session with the drummer for The Swellers -- and author of the Noisey article -- Jonathan Diener during their interview. It sounds a bit to me like early Modest Mouse with a splash of The Pixies, but a little further out there in left field... perhaps outer space. I mean that in the best way possible. Keep it weird.

Also -- there's this.
