While the the Foo Fighters days of playing sweaty, intimate club shows may be a thing of the past, there’s nothing like a great cause to bring them back to their roots. The band announced a special show at the Fillmore in Charlotte, N.C. on Sept. 5 to benefit Rock the Vote, helping to register young Americans to vote in the upcoming elections.

With tickets going on sale Tuesday (Aug. 21), they are now long gone. Not surprisingly, the ticket sales for the up close and personal event set a club record selling out in history making fashion. All tickets sold were nontransferable and had to be picked up on the night of the show.

According to a recent press release, “The show will celebrate the power of young voters during the Democratic National Convention and support Rock the Vote’s ground-breaking efforts to register more than 1.5 million young people, educate and turn them out to vote this November.”

Rock the Vote was founded almost twenty years ago combining the social pull of musicians to help engage young people in the political movement and the issues that will shape their future.

Foo Fighters seem to have dedicated the month of September to promoting great causes. The band also recently announced they’ll be playing at the Global Festival on Sept. 29 in New York City’s Central Park for another charitable venture. The goal is to spread awareness and raise money for the global epidemic of poverty.

Foo Fighters latest disc ‘Wasting Light’ was released in April of 2011 and has already spawned five smash singles and scored the Grammy award for ‘Best Rock Album’ of the year.
