Giraffe Tongue Orchestra Debut New Song ‘Crucifixion,’ Announce Album Title

Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, the supergroup started by the Dillinger Escape Plan‘s Ben Weinman and Mastodon‘s Brent Hinds in 2012, have debuted their new song, "Crucifixion" on BBC Radio 1 and have also revealed the title of their debut album.

The song premiered on Rock Show With Daniel P. Carter where Weinman discussed the forthcoming record, Broken Lines, as well as the track "Crucifixion" (heard below) and the addition of singer William DuVall (Alice in Chains). Kicking off with a punk-inspired rhythm with slightly dark overtones, the track gives way to slithery bass line backed by dizzying lead guitar work from Weinman. DuVall's voice takes on a subdued tone, injecting small bursts of his charm into the verse before the intro riff returns with full participation to round out the infectious chorus. The mid-section entertains a psychedelic dreamscape, playing the juxtaposition of the instrumentation in the verse.

Weinman stated on the program, "This band has been the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. Many times I considered just giving up on it because it just seemed like it wasn't meant to be. From the very start it was something that was just supposed to be fun and kind of casual, so, in essence, even if it didn't work out that would have been fine. For some reason Brent and I kept just wanting to continue to try to find the right kind of chemistry to make this happen and William actually was the first guy we ever talked to about singing with this project when it was just me and Brent, interestingly enough."

Broken Lines will be released on Sept. 23 through Partysmasher Inc. / Cooking Vinyl. Filling out the remainder of the lineup is Dethklok bassist Pete Griffin and former the Mars Volta drummer Thomas Prigden. Giraffe Tongue Orchestra will make their live debut with a pair of festival performances in the U.K. at Reading and Leeds, Aug. 27 and 28 respectively.
