It seems like a weird time of year to report that a man was killed on a snowmobile but that's exactly what happened in Gratiot County after the snowmobile he was riding crashed into a garage.

According to NBC25, the man was cleaning and working on his two snowmobiles when he decided to take one out for a ride around his yard.

For some unknown reason the machine traveled at a high rate of speed into the garage and struck the second machine and wall," said Gratiot County Sheriff Doug Wright.

He was thrown from the vehicle and killed.

End of summer/early fall is normally when riders get the winter itch to ride and will take out their snowmobiles to make sure they're ready for winter. It's pretty normal to test them out by riding around the yard a bit. This was just a very unfortunate accident.
