Green Day Cancel Club Tour, Postpone 2013 Dates, Push Up ‘¡Tré!’ Album Release

Green Day‘s first priority is the health and well-being of singer/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, who is seeking treatment in rehab. As a result, everything else, such as tour dates, is taking a backseat, and rightfully so. There’s a lot of activity related to some inactivity for the band right now.

The band has announced that it is canceling the fall club tour that was scheduled to begin in Seattle on Sept. 26 and end in Tempe on Dec. 10. Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase. But that’s not all. The punk rock threesome has postponed all scheduled appearances and live gigs for the months of January and February 2013.

New dates for these shows will be announced shortly, and previously purchased tickets will be honored. So it’s a postponing, not a canceling, when it comes to the 2013 tour dates. Goodnight as opposed to goodbye, you might say. But wait: There’s even more Green Day news.

The band is also bumping the release of ‘¡Tré!,’ the third album in its planned trilogy, to Dec. 11. It was due to be released on Jan. 15. The group is moving up the release date in order to give fans something to gnaw on while it remains absent from the live marketplace.

“Obviously the timing for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well/being is our main concern,” said bassist Mike Dirnt. He also shared an update on the frontman’s status, saying, “We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.”

Drummer Tré Cool weighed in on the changes to the band’s tour itinerary, saying, “We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned. If we couldn’t be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing.”

‘¡Dos!,’ the second album in the trilogy, is out on Nov. 9. A full list of postponed dates is available here.
