Green Day stormed into New York City's Irving Plaza for an intimate club show on Saturday night (Sept. 15) in celebration of their upcoming release '¡Uno!' and their involvement with Nokia's new music streaming service. And the fans lucky enough to be in attendance were treated to a two-and-a-half-hour marathon set that spanned the band's entire career.

Teenage punkers Lipstick Homicide opened the night with a short but energetic set, which included an onstage visit from Billie Joe Armstrong. The Green Day frontman took a few pics of the band before making his way off to the sidelines to prepare for his own band's headlining gig.

At 10PM, with the Ramones classic 'Blitzkrieg Bop' blaring over the sound system, Green Day hit the stage and tore into 'Welcome to Paradise' off 1994's 'Dookie.' The crowd went into a frenzy seeing their punk-rock heroes in such an intimate setting. During the night's third song, 'Know Your Enemy,' Armstrong brought up a young fan who didn't appear to be more than 10 years old. He gave the boy a big hug and had him sing along to the tune before he encouraged him to stage dive back into the audience.

During the set, Green Day rocked a handful of tunes off '¡Uno!,' the first disc of their upcoming album trilogy. The audience was already singing along to songs like 'Nuclear Family,' 'Let Yourself Go' and 'Oh Love,' which have all debuted online in recent weeks. The new cuts were mixed in with '90s classics like 'Burnout,' 'Brain Stew' and 'When I Come Around' along with 'American Idiot' favorites 'Holiday,' Boulevard of Broken Dreams' and 'When September Ends,' among rarities and other hits.

Despite turning 40 years old earlier this year, Armstrong performed with the exuberance and gusto of a musician half his age, taking two massive leaps into the audience during the night.

Green Day were certainly in a jovial mood, cranking out fun covers like AC/DC's 'Highway to Hell,' Ozzy Osbourne's 'Crazy Train' and the Rolling Stones' 'Satisfaction' throughout the night. During a rendition of the Isley Brothers standard 'Shout,' the band dropped down to the stage floor to perform the tune laying down, while 'King for a Day' saw Armstrong sporting a boa and captain's hat with Tre Cool taking center stage for some sweet leg kicks.

After two and a half hours and nearly 40 songs, the set ended at at 12:35AM following an encore of 'American Idiot' and '99 Revolutions.' Fans leaving the venue realized they saw a special and spontaneous gig that was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

While it won't be quite the same setting, be sure to catch Green Day are their upcoming North American tour of theaters and arenas. And learn about the band's involvement with Nokia Music's new streaming service here.
