Green Day Voted Best Punk Band Of All Time Thanks To Fan Club
Rolling Stone recently asked it readers to vote for the best punk rock band of all time. Green Day asked their fans to go vote in the poll and accidentally beat out many bands that even they would agree are better choices.
Green Day has a rabid fan following that are significantly more tech-savvy than say, fans of The Sex Pistols or The Ramones. Both of those elements played a major factor in Rolling Stone’s latest poll which ended with the Californian modern day punkers landing at #1.
Green Day, who we’re assuming just planned on making the list, asked for the help of fans via their website and on of their fansites. Rolling Stone stated in the opening paragraph of the poll results:
“What we didn’t count on were fan site Green Day Authority and the band’s official site at GreenDay.com both posting the link and asking fans to vote for Green Day – which gave the group a significant boost in the final tally.”
According to the poll “The Best Punk Rock Bands of All Time” are as follows:
- Green Day
- The Clash
- The Ramones
- The Sex Pistols
- The Dead Kennedys
- Iggy and the Stooges
- Black Flag
- The Misfits
- Social Distortion
- Bad Brains
Let’s just hope Rolling Stone takes this into account for their next poll, I’d hate to see Justin Bieber’s massive fan club get him voted greatest musician of all time. Green Day is currently in the studio recording the follow-up to 2009’s ’21st Century Breakdown’ and the movie version of their album, ‘American Idiot’, is currently in pre-production.
