Lzzy Hale on Halestorm’s Grammy Nomination: ‘It’s a Personal Victory for the Four of Us’
It’s been a massive year for Halestorm and they’re ending 2012 with a bang! It was just announced that the group and their song ‘Love Bites (So Do I)’ off of their latest album ‘The Strange Case Of…’ were nominated in the Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance category for the upcoming 55th annual Grammy Awards, taking place Feb. 10, 2013, in Los Angeles.
Halestorm will be competing against Anthrax, Megadeth, Marilyn Manson, Iron Maiden and Lamb of God in the category, and Loudwire had the chance to catch up with frontwoman Lzzy Hale to ask her all about what this nomination means to her.
What are your initial thoughts on this Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance?
Itâs crazy, it means a lot considering the rock/metal performance category â itâs kind of like a personal victory for the four of us. The performance of our live shows, thatâs what we love most. Itâs really neat, weâre extremely humbled by it, we had no idea. In fact, I wasnât even paying attention [laughs] to the nominees for the past couple years — that doesnât happen to bands like us!
I never expected it, but itâs really cool though — we actually found out in the middle of a show, so I got to announce it onstage and the crowd went crazy. Iâm just so happy about it, itâs very cool. Itâs just one of those things that you never expect to happen. You think about it when youâre a little kid: âOh it would be cool to get a Grammy,â and then it happens and youâre like âWow, who screwed up?â [Laughs]
Not many females have been nominated for hard rock and metal Grammys. Have you thought about the gender aspect and does it feel like you’re representing women in rock?
Definitely, Iâm also really honored to be the only chick in this category right now [laughs] — itâs really neat. I think just in the past year there have been so many girls that come to our shows who are basically saying, âIt gives me so much encouragement because youâre doing this and that means I can, too.â Iâm happy to be holding that flag at the moment for all of the much more talented young girls that are going to be coming up behind me â itâs neat to be representinâ.
So, are you and the guys going to get all dolled up and go to the actual awards ceremony?
Weâre definitely going to see if we can go. The good thing about it is that so far, around that time, there isnât a whole lot of traveling going on. Yesterday, Joe [Hottinger] was like, âWell what am I going to wear?â and Iâm like, âHey thatâs my role.â [Laughs] Iâm the girl in the band, I need to think about my shoes. Itâll be awesome, weâre definitely going to try to go no matter what and just have a good time. Hopefully, they let us in — ‘Wait, youâre not Katy Perry, no you canât come in.’ [Laughs]
