Halloween is pretty awesome. You get to dress up as anything you want, eat tons of candy and enjoy candy corn, the latter which just doesn’t taste the same at Christmastime.

As it turns out, I’m not the only one who loves the spooky holiday. According to a new survey by the National Retail Federation, roughly 66 percent of adults will partake in the festivities this year.

When it comes to numbers, an estimated 158 million people will participate in some Halloween-themed activity and spend a total of $6.9 billion this year.

Because of the hurting economy, however, they’re spending less than they did last year. The average Halloween participant is expected to spend roughly $75.03 on costumes, candy, decorations and other fun. Last year, that number was $79.82.

Looking at totals over the past few years, Halloween has increased in popularity, with the average spending on Halloween skyrocketing 54.7 percent since 2005.

What are you going to be for Halloween this year?
