Hear Feist and Mastodon Cover Each Other for Record Store Day
In one of the more unorthodox pairings on a Record Store Day that looks to be full of them, Feist and Mastodon have collaborated on a 7″ single that finds the artists covering each other — and now you can hear the results.
Dubbed ‘Feistodon,’ the record kicks off with Feist covering ‘Black Tongue,’ which originally appeared on Mastodon’s 2011 release ‘The Hunter’; on the B side, Mastodon tackles ‘A Commotion,’ drawn from Feist’s most recent release, ‘Metals.’
The collaboration was sparked by a chance encounter when both artists guested on Jools Holland’s U.K. talk show. As Mastodon’s Troy Sanders put it, “The idea is for Mastodon to cover a Feist song and throw some hair and dirt on it. [Feist and her band are] going to take a Mastodon song and pretty it up a little bit.”
But not too pretty, as Feist explained: “If people are expecting a cute twee cover of a metal song they have a big surprise comin.”
