‘Logan’ Might Not Be Hugh Jackman’s Last Appearance as Wolverine After All

When the hullabaloo about Ryan ReynoldsDeadpool possibly having a cameo in the next Wolverine movie erupted last week, everyone involved in Logan was quick to put those rumors to rest. But that might not mean we’ll never see the two X-Men in a movie together. After everything had died down, Reynolds had a chance to reflect and mentioned that he would be totally down to team up with the Canadian superhero, but there’s one big obstacle to get past: for all intents and purposes, Logan will be Hugh Jackman’s last run as Wolverine.

When Variety asked Reynolds in a new profile how he’d consider making that team-up happen, he mentioned how he’d have to do a lot of convincing first.

I have no idea if I can change his mind. It’s the audience: I would exclusively exploit that relationship to get Hugh back for another one.

The article also quotes Jackman himself, who seems to now be a little iffy about letting the character go so soon.

I’m hesitating because I could totally see how that’s the perfect fit. But the timing may be wrong.

If it does end up happening, it would be a ton of fun, but they shouldn’t rush it. Jackman has probably been working on Logan this whole time under the assumption that this would be his swan song in the world of the X-Men, and to then turn around and try to do this team-up, no matter how great it ends up being, could feel a little weird. Reynolds says he’d like to keep playing Deadpool “for as long as they keep letting me play Deadpool.” Their joint project would be entirely up to Hugh.

And, I mean, much like NFL stars, actors and directors say something is their “last one“ all the time, before turning around a few years later because they miss the work. Who knows — in a few years, especially if Logan is a big success, Jackman could be back in the game again, ready to reluctantly team up with a certain mouthy merc.
