Incubus may not be the most religion-friendly band out there, but they're certainly not Cannibal Corpse or Slayer. Apparently it's all in the name for one group in Manila, Philippines who've started an anti-Incubus movement to prevent the band from playing there. Lame.

in·cu·bus/ˈiNGkyəbəs/Noun

  1. An evil spirit supposed to descend upon and have sexual intercourse with women as they sleep.
  2. A nightmare.
  3. An oppressive or nightmarish burden.
This is the definition of the word incubus, according to ABS-CBN News it is also the cause of a problem for the band Incubus who plan to play a concert in Manila, Philippines on July 28th. A group in that country is apparently afraid that the band that brought you satanic hits such as 'Love Hurts' and 'Wish You Were Here', is going to take on the form of a demon and have sex with their women while they sleep. As ridiculous as this sounds, check out the text prayer that has been circulating in the Philippines in attempt to raise awareness of the cause:
.
"PRAYER ALERT !! A rock band called INCUBUS s comin 2perform at d Araneta Coliseum on July 28. We mUST pRAY this group dUZnt even step on2 Philippine soil so that they dONT impart their spirits in2 our youth!! Pls pass...& PRAY!! May GOD protect us all"
.
That is the abridged version of the incredibly well written 'Prayer Alert', the full text also included a definition of the word 'incubus' and expanded on it's connection to nightmares. Oddly enough there are several hard rock acts scheduled to play there this year including Korn, The Acacia Strain, and Everytime I Die; yet no action against those significantly heavier bands has been taken. Probably because corn is a vegetable and a good source of Vitamin C regardless of how you spell it.
.
If you would like to hear how the band ended up with the name, here is an old video where they explain how they came to be Incubus.
