‘It’ Deleted Scene Apparently Featured Pennywise Trying to Eat a Baby

The process of trimming down a massive, 1,100-page Stephen King novel into a single film (or at least a first film that will later be joined by a companion piece) requires a lot of trimming and editing. And in the process of trimming and editing It, apparently some of the most shocking material wound up on the cutting-room floor.

In a recent interview (via JoBlo), actor Timothy Simons revealed that his audition for the Pennywise part included the reading of a shocking scene that didn’t appear (perhaps thankfully) in the final film:

It was [Pennywise] way back at the beginning of Derry convincing the woman to give him her baby to eat. And it was scary. The thing that was scariest about it was that it was very direct. It was, ‘If you don’t do this, these are the things that I’m going to do.’ And they were all terrible.

Look, I know it sounds bad. But we never saw the scene, which doesn’t come from the Stephen King source material to the best of my knowledge. Let’s give old Pennywise the benefit of the doubt. There could be a non-sinister motivation for wanting to eat a baby. Like, maybe he’s just a huge Austin Powers fan. Maybe he wanted to cosplay as Fat Bastard for Halloween! Even evil demon clowns are innocent until proven guilty in my book.

Wait, is it possible Pennywise is Fat Bastard? Maybe before he became this deranged jester, he actually worked for Dr. Evil? It would explain a lot. Appearing in Goldmember could traumatize anyone.
