Queens of the Stone Age leader Josh Homme has released his soundtrack for the German movie In the Fade, which shares its name with a track on the band's 2000 album Rated R. Listen to all 14 tracks below, and watch a trailer for the film above. In the Fade .

Director Fatih Akin sent an early cut to Homme in the hope that he’d be inspired by the story of a woman who sets out to track down a group of extremists after they’d murdered her husband and son. “That was a big surprise,” Akin told Variety in May. “When I was writing this, I was listening to a lot of music by Queens of the Stone Age. I had the feeling that this could be the music that the character was listening to. It has a self-destructive attitude and somehow the film is about self-destruction.

“I sent him a very early version of the film. He immediately called back saying he loved it and was blown away and that he would like to put his hands on it. We phoned maybe four or five times, sent 10 emails back and forth, and then I had the music. It was a very uncomplicated, fast and very clean process of working.”

The band put out Villains in August. Ahead of its release, Homme – who contributed to the soundtrack of the 2002 movie The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys – said, "At the end of the day, this is just a musical way to explain a lifetime. So the most important record I’m making is the one I’m working on. For the lack of a better term, I bet my life on it. If you don’t risk anything, you’re not gonna get anything. I don’t want to copy myself, I just want to take another chance at it. It keeps it always exciting that way.”
