A tragic accident happened Wednesday evening at the Train Depot in Lapeer. A 55-year-old man was killed after being struck by a freight train.

The accident occurred just after 6 pm Wednesday night June 13th. The man was at the Train Depot, which is on Howard Street, just off of Saginaw Street in Lapeer. When police arrived the man was already deceased. The intersections in the area were shut down during the investigation. No foul play is suspected in the incident.

The Train Depot in Lapeer is provided Amtrak train service from Tronto, Canada to Chicago, Illinois. That station is one of 21 active depots in Michigan and is the only stop between Port Huron and Flint. Trains from the station run along the Grand Trunk Western Rail line.

I was sad to see this pop up on my Facebook timeline yesterday as I have many friends in the Lapeer area. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
