Chainsaw, check. Dead skin mask, check. Screaming hot chicks, check. Yup, it looks like 'Texas Chainsaw 3D' is going to be just like every other 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' sequel / prequel / re-make... except for the 3D of course.

The new 'Texas Chainsaw' film isn't a continuation of the remake starring Jessica Biel, nor is it a sequel to that film's prequel or another re-imagining (well, maybe it is -- we're pretty confused at this point). Apparently, TC3D will pick up immediately following the events of the 1974 original (a.k.a. the best of the series). Remember in 2006 when they made 'Superman Returns,' that sequel to 'Superman II' that pretended like the other two sequels never happened -- that worked out well, didn't it?

The film doesn't fully take place in the past though, as it appears the bulk of the story will be set in present day Texas and will be centered around one of Leatherface's distant relatives -- some hot chick who inherits his house.

Historically unsuccessful strategy aside, this flick does have a few things going for it.  3D being the first of those. Screw 'Avatar' and kids movies, 3D was made for horror films and that's where it is best utilized.
The second plus is the return of Bill Moseley, who you may remember as "Chop-Top" Sawyer from TC 2, as well as his role in 'The Devil's Rejects' and 'The House of 1,000 Corpses.' This time around, Moseley will portray Drayton Sawyer, who was the demented father figure of the murderous clan in the first two films. Even the original Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen) will drop in for a cameo, so maybe it's not all bad.

Those things aside, this looks like a carbon copy of every Chainsaw Massacre we've ever seen. As a fan of the series' earlier outings (parts 1-3), let's hope there's more to it than that.
