Melissa Gilbert, who is, perhaps, best known for her role as Laura Ingalls on the television show ‘Little House on the Prairie’, announced earlier this week that she is running for a Michigan congressional seat.

According to the Associated Press, the 51-year-old Democrat relocated to Michigan two years ago, and she now wants an opportunity to serve the 8th District – an area that includes counties in Detroit and Lansing.

"I'm running for Congress to make life a little easier for all the families who feel they have fallen through the cracks in today's economy," Gilbert said in a statement. "I believe building a new economy is a team effort, and we need to bring fresh voices to the table to get the job done."

There is some controversy, however, over Gilbert’s ability to take care of her own problems, much less those associated with Michigan. Some reports indicate that the former 'Little House' star owes several hundred thousand dollars in back taxes to the federal government and another hundred thousand or so to the state of California.

Gilbert blames hard times and a divorce on her debt. She says she has negotiated a payment plan with the IRS.

Honestly, we have always had a thing for Melissa Gilbert. Not only is she absolutely stunning to look at, but God knows she couldn't do any worse for Michigan than the imbeciles currently in place.
