I'm always all for the Flint-town pride, celebrating each other and the art we make. We have so much soul around here. Cheryl Churchill, a local lady and one of my Machine Shop friends, has some cool stuff goin' on, so I'm gonna show it off!  Cheers!

We started talking in depth at the Shop one night, because she had this killer purse that I could tell was hand-crafted...not hand-made. In my opinion hand-made looks like it was put together. Hand-crafted, on the other hand, is a display of pride.
I spoke with Cheryl on Facebook to ask about what she does and here is what I dug up:
"About my studio. Studio 810 is a design studio dedicated to making clothing/costumes for entertainers of all disciplines. I work collaboratively with my [clients] in a relaxed atmosphere. From concept to finished product I work closely with them to achieve a desired look. If my client is not comfortable then they may not perform to the best of their ability and my job is to enhance their performance, not hinder it. For example I have a client who wanted a Hostess cupcake inspired outfit for a lounge act."

"It's not about making clothes for me, its about bringing creative ideas to a very real place. The idea for the name Studio 810 came from my love of this area. The art and music coming from Flint/Detroit has a certain underlying struggle combined with a passion I have not seen anywhere else. Flint/ Detroit performers are some of the hardest working people in the entertainment industry I have ever met. I love being an artist for many reasons. Being surrounded by creativity is very important to me. I love seeing ideas and vision transformed into wearable art."
