Lowe's announced today the closing of 51 North American stores including 20 in the United States. Two of those closings will happen in Michigan and of course, both of them are right here in Genesee County.

According to WDIV, Lowe's located in Burton and Flint will be closed before Feb. 1, 2019. Apparently, the chain is struggling to keep up with their larger rival Home Depot.

All of the locations are considered underperforming stores. With these closings, Lowe's can now focus on their most profitable stores.

This really bums me out because I do all my home improvement shopping at Lowe's. Hell, I bought all of my kitchen appliances, washer/dryer, lawn mower and more from Lowe's. Obviously, I still have other options in the area including Menards and Home Depot.

Those are huge buildings so I have to imagine it will be a real challenge to find another company that can or would even want to take them over. I assume they will sit empty for years like so many other buildings in our area.
