This past Sunday, my sister and kids were spending the day at Metamora-Hadley State Park when they witnessed something terrible.

A 32 year-old Swartz Creek man was swimming with his girlfriend, messing around, and just having fun near one of the buoys. Well at one point the man went under and never came up. The girlfriend was screaming hysterically for help after she realized he wasn't messing around.

My sister and other people at the beach immediately started searching frantically. Some people who were fully clothed even came running from the beach but had no luck finding him right away. It took around 10 to 15 minutes before they realized he had gotten tangled in the vegetation just past the buoy, where the depth drops off. Unfortunately at that point it was too late.

Firefighters arrived on the scene after he had been found and pulled him onto their boat, but couldn't save him.
