Marilyn Manson ‘Would Love To’ Make More Music with Trent Reznor

Time heals all wounds, even for artists who’ve embraced their pain as successfully as Marilyn Manson and Trent Reznor. The duo’s famously fractured relationship is on the mend — and making new music together in the future apparently isn’t out of the question.

Manson opened up about his renewed friendship with Reznor during a recent interview with Zane Lowe for Beats One, which you can listen to above. Looking back on the public break with his former producer, who helmed Manson’s first LP and released it through his Nothing imprint, Manson told Lowe that their rift thawed after the airing of the HBO documentary The Defiant Ones, which looks back on the rise of the Interscope imprint both artists once called home.

“He’s the one who’s actually sent me an email,” said Manson. “He said … something along the lines of, ‘It really pisses me off that music’s not dangerous anymore and it reminds me of how great you were and I was and the time, the era.’ Nine Inch Nails was obviously huge to me and to have Trent Reznor — meet him, interview him and to sign me — was a big impact on my life. All of the past, any sort of squabbles or arguments or disagreements, that s— just went away.”

That raises the obvious question of whether they could end up working together in the studio again — something Manson remained coy about while admitting there’s already been at least a little discussion about the possibility.

“We’ve been speaking about things. I don’t know what will happen. I would love to,” he added. “He taught me how to do a lot of things … he taught me a lot of what I know about music.”

Whatever ends up happening, it’ll most likely take some time before it reaches the public: Manson’s new album, Heaven Upside Down, arrives in stores Oct. 6, while Reznor released a Nine Inch Nails EP, Add Violence, earlier this year.
