Dave Mustaine and Co. have had a full plate the last few months between the road and recording. Over the course of their last few shows, Megadeth debuted the song 'Public Enemy No. 1' and named their upcoming record 'TH1RT3EN'.

Megadeth have been recording the band's 13th studio album at Vic's Garage, the band's studio named after their beloved mascot Vic Rattlehead (seen above), since January of this year. Judging from the various band members' Twitter feeds, they are near completion of the album that is expected in November of 2011. Megadeth will also be contributing a new song to the upcoming video game 'Neverdead'.

Earlier this week Dave Mustaine spoke to Pure Grain Audio about the sound of the new record compared to their previous effort 'Endgame':

"Different, a hundred percent different, unlike anything we’ve ever done before because the guitar sounds are different, it sounds really super modern. If I was going to say it sounds like a particular band I would say it sounds like really old classic Sabbath and with a little bit of a modern edge of Queens of the Stone Age kind of thing."

Dave recently announced that the title of the album would be 'TH1RT3EN' during their performance at Sonisphere on June 8th. Backstage he also explained further, "I started playing guitar at 13, this is our thirteenth album, and I was born on 13". He also spoke about a song he came up with that probably helped inspire the album's title:

"I just started writing this other thing and we’re calling it "song 13" right now. It just came out of nowhere, it’s probably the most melodic, most geared for success song out of the whole record...I think we’ve got probably our best offer since the Countdown to Extinction era."

'TH1RT3EN' will be the first album to feature the band's original bass player Dave Ellefson since 2001's 'The World Needs a Hero'. Ellefson rejoined Megadeth for the 'Rust in Peace 20th Anniversary Tour' in 2010, and decided to stick with the band once the tour ended.
