The new season of Saturday Night Live is just around the corner, and earlier today the long-running NBC late night staple put out the call to their followers asking which acts should be musical guests for the upcoming year. Hoping to increase their chances, both Metallica and Ghost have put the word out to their fans to see if they can be one of the featured acts this coming year.

In Metallica's tweet to fans about the Saturday Night Live fan vote, they revealed that it had been 19 years since they last played the sketch comedy show. Should the band appear on SNL, they'd have a brand new album to promote as Hardwired ... To Self-Destruct is set to arrive on Nov. 18 and they're already tearing up the chart with their current single "Hardwired."

As for Ghost, they've seen their star shine even more over the past year as they've gone deep in support of their Meliora album. The band earned a Best Metal Performance Grammy earlier this year and they've earned props as one of the more engaging live bands going, so an SNL appearance would only boost the band's visibility even further. And their fall tour wraps in Brooklyn in November, putting the group in the vicinity of being able to appear on the show with some time cleared around it. Check out both acts' social media postings along with the original Saturday Night Live posting below.

The new season of Saturday Night Live begins Saturday, Oct. 1. The schedule for the first few episodes has not been revealed as of yet.
