No one was happier than the fans when Metallica returned with a new album last fall. And the fact that the band shot videos for every song on the Hardwired … To Self-Destruct album was a good sign of the confidence the band had in the double disc. Now, as Metallica start playing their “WorldWired” tour shows, they’ve started to pick and choose the occasions to debut some of the new material live. “Dream No More” was the latest to make the set list, and pro-shot footage from its recent debut in Mexico City can be seen above.
“Now something really heavy,” states James Hetfield, introducing the track to those in attendance at the Foro Sol in Mexico City. The band bathed themselves and the crowd in green spotlights throughout the performance, helping to add to the vibe and feel of the song. The song is a chugging, epic rocker that trudges along with sludgy heaviness, breaking form in the latter portion of the song for Kirk Hammett to noodle away on his guitar to the delight of the crowd, with Hetfield later joining him for some harmonic guitar interplay.
The track eventually comes to a heavy conclusion, with Hetfield exclaiming, “Until it rises again, dream no more. Thank you Mexico City.” The performance took place this past Sunday (March 5).
