A Lenawee County, Michigan couple forgot about a trip to the Tecumseh Public Library, and now a judge is really "throwing the book at them." Get it? Books... but seriously, they could go to jail.

Cathy and Melvin Duren faced a Lenawee County judge Thursday, after each of them forgot to return a book to the library. Cathy's teenage son used her card to check out a Dr. Seuss book for her granddaughter to read in July of 2014. They lost the book, and Cathy used her husbands card to check out 'The Rome Prophecy' in April of 2015.

In December, the library notified them that if they did not return the books or pay to replace them, they could be charged with a crime. In January 2016 they did return 'The Rome Prophecy,' but could not find the Dr. Seuss book. Despite offering to pay for both books, they were charged with Failure to Return Rental Property because the authorities had already been notified.

The Durens will likely be in court again sometime this week to face the charges, which could see them in jail for three months. Even though it is said that jail time is not a likely outcome in this case, the judge still cautioned them that it was a possibility.

See, kids? Goging to jail for overdue books? That's why I just wait until they make the book into a movie now, which happens with just about everyone worth reading tthese days. Plus, movies are quicker. Several hours a night to read a book? Who has that kind of free time? Not me -- I've got beer to drink.
