Great, now I've got polio. Thanks, Jenny McCarthy.

Even though vaccinations have helped to largely eradicate diseases like small pox, measles, tetanus, and polio, there are still a bunch of people who refuse to get their children vaccinated. These brave battlers of Big Pharma are also likely to tell you about the dangers of chemtrails, how Harambe was assassinated to distract us from the election, and that the five wealthiest people in the world -- collectively known as "The Pentaverate" -- control everything. All of those beliefs sound interesting, but once you start digging -- all of them start to reek of bulls---, much like the "fraudulent 1998 research paper" upon which most anti-vaxxers base their distrust of vaccines.

The anti-vaccination movement is a very real thing, and chances are roughly 1 in 4 that you know one of its members. That's right, according to a new study from 24/7 Wall St, Michigan has the fourth lowest vaccination rate in the United States at 77.7%. The rankings are based on the percentage of infants who are vaccinated for DTaP, which is a good indicator of vaccination rates according to experts. While more than 3/4 of the state population may seem like a good number, it's downright embarrassing when you look at Maine's 93.1%.

Roughly 42,000 people die in the United States each year from vaccine preventable diseases. Think about that if you ever get the urge to trust disgraced doctors and the chick from 'Singled Out' with your child's health.
