While anyone who has ever known a true, die-hard pill head understands that nothing can deter the junkie mind from its path of destruction, the Michigan Department of Community Health has launched a website they feel will soften the scourge of prescription drug abuse in the state.

The site is called “Do Your Part” and it is a prevention effort aimed at educating the public on the perils of prescription drug and alcohol abuse.

“Everyone has a role to play in the solution as we address prescription drug misuse and abuse in Michigan. This website offers practical steps that everyone can take right now,” said MDCH Director Nick Lyon. “We can all do our part by monitoring the medications in our homes, understanding the risks of sharing prescription medications, and properly disposing of medications when they are no longer needed.”

Throughout the years, popping prescription pills like Lortab and OxyContin has become one of American’s favorite pastimes, with an alarming number of individuals dying as a result of this recreational practice. Reports indicate that just under 1,000 people died in Michigan in 2012 because of a prescription overdose.
