On a hot Michigan day, the temperature inside your car can get significantly higher than the outside temperature. Many reports say that your car can heat up by 20º just 10 minutes after you park it. So, just imagine how hot your car could get on a 90º day.

Many of us are guilty of leaving unnecessary items in our vehicles year-round. Some of those items can react negatively depending on the temperature outside. In the winter during sub-zero temperatures, we know not to leave electronics, soda or beer, musical instruments, eggs, canned food, and medication in our vehicles.

When I was in high school, I found out the hard way that it was never a good idea to leave your cassette tapes in the back window of your car. I had a case of cassettes that melted, and I had to rebuy all of them all over again.

While we no longer live in a world where we are in danger of ruining our cassettes, there are still quite a few things you should avoid leaving in your car when it's hot outside.

I feel I should state the obvious before we get to our list. Never leave loved ones, including children or pets, in your vehicle when it's hot or cold outside.
