A Michigan man was arrested earlier this week after authorities caught him engaged in a barely legal meat slinging operation. Actually, it wasn't legal at all.

Reports indicate that 56-year-old Danny Loyd had been the subject of a lengthy investigation in which bear meat and organs were being sold illegally all over the world. Undercover agents purchased black bear meat products from Loyd, which led to him being taken into custody.

Loyd appeared in Houghton County court on Wednesday where he was arraigned on six counts of selling bear parts and running a taxidermy business without a license.

Wildlife officials say the sale of bear parts can be a lucrative business for poachers. Some internet sources show black bear stew meat sells for up to $150 per pound, while bear rib eyes can cost as much as $200 per pound.
