With last week’s news of Ohio voters getting to decide on the legalization of marijuana this November, there is now a great deal of hope that Michigan will get the same opportunity in 2016.

The latest report from MILegalize, one of the groups most likely to get an initiative aimed at legalizing a statewide cannabis industry on the ballot in the next presidential election, indicates that they are well on their way to collecting the necessary signatures to get a voice on this issue in November 2016. The group says they are planning to file the signatures with the state by December 21 of 2015.

On Friday, the group will raise additional funds for their campaign with a pre-Cannabis Cup “Secret Sessions” party in Detroit.

“The ultimate pre-Cup event features Adam III, co-host of B-Real TV's weed series, "The Dr. Greenthumb Show," with special guest Tim and music from DJ Salam Wreck. B-Real is better known as the frontman for the band Cypress Hill. The 'Secret Sessions' is a traveling underground party; the 'Sesh' event will have great vendors such as Downriver Hydro and the legendary BDT head shops, a live broadcast from the Planet Green Trees Radio Show, smokey tunes, other special guests and fun people!”

Proceeds from this event will go towards legalizing marijuana across the state in a manner similar to what is currently underway in Colorado and Washington. It is worth mentioning that MiLegalize has the best shot at making this happen, so it is important to get behind their mission if you want out of Michigan’s current prohibitionary standard.
