A Michigan medical marijuana patient appeared before a state House committee earlier last week to express her disgust with the law enforcement agency that has been allowed to steal from her.

Ginnifer Hency testified before the Michigan House Judiciary Committee to discuss a raid, which led to the seizure of all of her possessions, even her vibrator, even though a judge has since dismissed her case. Hency, who receives medical marijuana for multiple sclerosis, was the victim of a SWAT raid, which led to the discovery of six ounces of weed – all of which was legal for her to have. Yet, the cops took the opportunity to steal from her anyway.

“They took everything, even though I was fully compliant with the Michigan medical marijuana laws,” said Hency. “They charged me with possession with intent to deliver, even though I’m allowed to possess and deliver.”

“They have had my stuff for 10 months, my ladder, my iPad, my children’s iPads, my children’s phones, my medicine for my patients,” Hency explained. “Why a ladder? Why my vibrator, I don’t know either. Why TVs?”

Even though her case was eventually dismissed, the local prosecutor has refused to return of her possessions.

“The prosecutor came out to me and said, ‘Well, I can still beat you in civil court. I can still take your stuff,’” Hency told the committee.

The Michigan House Judiciary Committee is considering legislation that would amend this policy, but it would do nothing to protect innocent people from getting ripped off by the civil asset forfeiture program.
