A Michigan mother had the heat brought down on her earlier this month after authorities discovered she was treating her 10-and-12-year-old boys with medical marijuana. The 31—year-old Wexford County woman was forced to attend a pretrial conference this week in Cadillac to answer to the changes of manufacturing marijuana and two counts of child abuse in the third degree.

Although, from the outside looking in, giving marijuana to kids who are not yet even teenagers seems unheard of, but reports indicate the woman was experimenting with the herb to help combat her 10-year-old's emotional problems and her 12-year-old's ADHD without relying on dangerous prescription drugs.

Yet, prosecutors as well as health officials are not at all impressed with the mother’s amateur treatment plan. “Actually, ADD is linked to the use of marijuana,” Dr. Shawn Jayakar told a recent radio program. “So I definitely would not recommend anyone with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder to use marijuana, as it can make it worse, make it more difficult to concentrate, and makes you prone to further abuse of other drugs.”

While medical marijuana is legal in the state of Michigan, minors must have permission from a physician before being allowed to consume a non-intoxicating strain of the herb. Apparently, this was not the case with this Michigan mother, who is now facing four years in prison for the drug charges and 2 years for the child abuse.
