The war on drugs has been an ongoing battle for decades in the United States. And after looking over this recent study by Wallethub, it feels like it's a battle that can't be won.

The WalletHub report shows the 'States with the Biggest Drug Problems.' They compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia in terms of 20 key metrics, ranging from arrest and overdose rates to opioid prescriptions and employee drug testing laws.

Where Does Michigan Rank With Drug Use by State?

The study found that Michigan not only has a drug problem, it's one of the worst in the country. As a matter of fact, it has the 10th biggest drug problem in America in 2023, with a total score of 55.31.

Here are the 10 states with the biggest drug problems:

  4. Louisiana
  5. Colorado
  6. Missouri

While Michigan ranks very high on a national level, the number of people who died of drug overdoses in Michigan declined by almost 4% in 2022. However, the nation hit yet another record, with 109,680 people dying from drug overdoses last year.

According to WalletHub, the study looked at three main categories to determine the biggest drug problem:

  • Drug Use and Addiction
  • Law Enforcement
  • Drug Health Issues & Rehab.
