Michigan police are still in a frenzy to pull you over for minor traffic infractions in hopes of busting you for something more serious.

In a recent report by WXYZ-TV in Detroit, a group of police officers explain their “Blitz Marathon,” in which they target motorists for infractions such as speeding or failing to use a turn signal in an effort to determine if those people have outstanding warrants or are traveling in possession of illegal drugs. Officers say this entire campaign is in the interest of “public safety.”

Of course, this is a complete scam, and the only thing a crackdown of this magnitude does is line the pockets of local municipalities and the state.

Interestingly, the ACLU reports that 88 percent of all drug-related arrests are for marijuana possession, so it is no secret what these cops are searching for.

If you happen to get stopped during one of these blitz-style shakedowns, it is in your best interest to understand your rights not talk too much to the cops.

There is no law that says you have to be polite to police…although simple Yes and No answers are best. Being a jerk will only give a cop a reason to search your vehicle. It is best to let the cop do the majority of the talking. Saying too much can get you into trouble. Just remember “anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.” So again, Yes and No answers. Silence is in no way an admission of guilt and it cannot be used against you.

Also, cops hate it, but you are allowed to record the entire incident.

Be careful out there.
