Michigan can be one of the scariest places in America if you happen to be afraid of murderers and meth heads, but for those people terrified by wild animals, clowns and prison rape, this is a great place to call home.

In a recent Estately Blog entitled “The United States of Fear,” the author attempts to establish what it is in this country that scares people sh-tless and gauge those fears according to individual states.

Researchers, if that is what you want to call them, determined there are only four other states in the nation where people are more afraid of being murdered than the people of Michigan: Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Alabama.

Overall, Michigan is not one of the scariest places to live in the United States – it comes in at number 23 on the list. Interestingly, while researchers based their criteria on fear factors like Flying, Hurricanes, Shark Attacks and Dentists, to name a few, they failed to incorporate a fear of ball-biting piranha in our lakes, which has some of us really freaking nervous right now.
